God Warned Me My Firstborn Would Die If I Left RCCG – Pastor Adeboye

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that God once warned him his firstborn would die if he ever left the denomination.
Adeboye made the shocking revelation during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held in the early hours of Saturday, June 7, at the Redemption City of God, Ogun State.
Speaking on the importance of divine direction and spiritual consistency, the 82-year-old cleric referenced a sermon earlier delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, and cautioned young Christians against frequently switching churches.
He recalled that when he gave his life to Christ, three prominent ministries were thriving in Nigeria at the time, and he was tempted to join them. However, God gave him a clear warning.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said.
“But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
Adeboye noted that RCCG was largely unknown back then, and its headquarters was a modest structure in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Despite being a university lecturer, he said God instructed him to submit to a spiritual father who had no formal education.
“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school — not even primary. But God said, ‘This is where you will stay,’” he recounted.
He urged the congregation, particularly young people, to seek God’s direction and remain rooted where He has planted them.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” Adeboye advised.
He also clarified that his testimony was not a claim of superiority over other denominations.
“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he said.
