Ganduje Mourns Tragic Death of 22 Kano Athletes in Road Accident

Former Kano State Governor and National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of 22 members of the Kano State sports contingent returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The athletes lost their lives when the vehicle transporting them veered off the road and plunged into a bridge at Dakatsalle, near Kura Local Government Area in Kano State.
In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, Ganduje described the incident as an immense tragedy—not just for the grieving families and the people of Kano, but for the entire nation.
“This is a deeply sorrowful moment,” Ganduje said. “These young athletes set out in the spirit of unity, patriotism, and excellence to represent both our state and the nation. Losing them in such a devastating and untimely accident is a monumental national loss.”
Ganduje praised the fallen athletes as dedicated, talented youths who represented the bright future of Nigerian sports and the pride of Kano State.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the government of Kano State, and the broader Nigerian sports community, offering prayers for the souls of the departed and for comfort to those mourning their loss.
Ganduje also called for a full investigation into the circumstances of the crash, urging authorities to strengthen safety measures for future national sporting events to safeguard the lives of young Nigerian athletes.
“May Almighty Allah (SWT) grant eternal rest to the departed and give their families the fortitude to bear this painful and irreparable loss,” he concluded.
