Fubara Calls On Rivers People To Thank Tinubu For Averting Anarchy Amid Political Crisis

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged his supporters, Rivers residents, and Nigerians to extend sincere gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his timely intervention in resolving the political crisis that nearly plunged the state into chaos.

Fubara made the call on Thursday in Port Harcourt during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the Simplified Movement, as part of activities marking his second year in office. According to a statement by his media aide, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor said peace and reconciliation efforts were already in progress to restore full operations in both the executive and legislative arms of government.

“I want to assure you that the issues will soon be resolved, and you will return to your offices—not just in the executive arm, but also in the legislative arm,” Fubara said. “I also believe that the strong relationships we had before will be rebuilt, and we’ll work together again for the good of the state. What matters now is that we forgive and move forward.”

He emphasized the critical role President Tinubu played in calming tensions, saying, “We are already in the peace process. I want you to thank Mr. President for stepping in at the right time. If not for him, the story today would have been different.

“I don’t know how he gets his information, but he acted with wisdom. He deserves your thanks, and I personally appreciate his efforts and the appeals from others across the country who urged him to act.”

Fubara encouraged everyone to put aside personal grievances and support the reconciliation process, stressing that the stability and progress of Rivers State should take priority.

“We have to come down from our high horses and subject ourselves to the peace process,” he said. “It’s not about individuals. The interest of the state is what matters most.”

He acknowledged that the political unrest had overshadowed plans to celebrate key achievements in his administration’s second year, but promised a renewed focus on delivering good governance and development once peace is fully restored.

The governor also appealed to those who may feel hurt or disappointed by his actions, saying his decisions were made in the interest of maintaining peace and order.

He expressed confidence in reconciling with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of the state, Chief Nyesom Wike.

“There is no reason why there won’t be peace between me and my Oga,” Fubara stated. “We’re already holding meetings. Reconciliation is in motion, and there will be peace.”

Fubara concluded by thanking Rivers people and Nigerians for their support, loyalty, and prayers throughout the crisis, promising to continue serving with humility and respect.

“One important thing in life is respect. I want to earn the respect of the people, not force it. I’m with you completely,” he said.
