French President Emmanuel Macron Sues Candace Owens Over Claims About First Lady’s Gender

French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, have filed a defamation lawsuit against U.S. conservative commentator Candace Owens for repeatedly spreading false claims that the First Lady was born male.

The suit, filed in Delaware, accuses Owens of engaging in a sustained campaign of misinformation, including a series of podcasts and social media posts that allege Brigitte Macron is transgender. The Macrons’ legal team described the conspiracy theory as “devastating, defamatory, and entirely baseless.”

The 218-page lawsuit includes 22 separate counts and also points to other bizarre accusations pushed by Owens, such as linking the Macrons to incest and CIA mind control programs. Lawyers for the French president say the intent is to damage reputations and stir outrage.

Emmanuel Macron’s attorney called the case a “clear-cut example” of defamation, stressing that the couple seeks to end what they describe as a “relentless smear campaign” that has caused global harm to their image.

Candace Owens responded defiantly, invoking her First Amendment rights and dismissing the lawsuit as a political stunt. “I’ll see you in court,” she posted on X.

If successful, the case could set a major precedent in international defamation law—especially regarding public figures seeking justice across borders.
