Footballer detained for ‘inciting’ comment on Isreal-Hamas war

French authorities have detained Nice defender and Algerian footballer, Youcef Atal on charges of inciting hatred.
Atal was detained after he shared an anti-semitic message online. His trial has been set for next month.
The regional prosecutor on Friday said Atal would face trial for incitement to religious hatred on December 18 at the Nice criminal court.
Atal who was recently suspended from playing seven matches over the post last month, was released on Friday on bail of $87,500 and placed under judicial supervision.
Until the trial is over, he is not allowed to leave France except for international football games.
French football club, Nice also suspended the defender on Wednesday until further notice.
Atal has been criticised for sharing a video from a Palestinian preacher on Instagram, purportedly calling for violence against Jewish people.
