Former Super Eagles Winger Okwuchukwu Waobikeze Passes Away in the US

Nigeria has lost former international footballer and ex-Super Eagles winger, Okwuchukwu Waobikeze, popularly known as ‘Babaoo.’
His brother, Eli Waobikeze, announced his passing in a heartfelt statement shared via Facebook. According to the statement, the retired winger died peacefully on Monday, July 14, at about 7:34 p.m. Central Standard Time.
“On behalf of the Waobikeze family, I would like to announce the peaceful passing to eternal glory of my brother Allen Okwuchukwu Waobikeze,” the post read. “We appreciate everyone who prayed, called, and visited my brother. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon. Please keep our family in your prayers.”
Waobikeze was admired for his dominant left foot and dynamic performances on the wing. He made a name for himself in Nigeria’s domestic football scene, playing for top clubs like Sharks FC of Port Harcourt, BCC Lions of Gboko, and Iwuanyanwu Nationale (now Heartland FC).
His death comes shortly after the reported passing of former Super Eagles captain and legendary goalkeeper Peter Rufai, marking another painful loss for Nigerian football.
