Former AGF Abubakar Malami Dumps APC, Joins ADC-Led Opposition Coalition

Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared his allegiance to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), now the political platform for the newly unveiled opposition coalition.
Malami made the announcement on Tuesday, stating that his decision was not driven by personal ambition but by a deep concern for Nigeria’s current trajectory under the APC-led government.
In his statement, the former minister cited worsening insecurity, crippling economic hardship, rising food prices, rampant unemployment, and unchecked banditry as key reasons behind his defection.
“This is not about politics as usual. It is a patriotic response to a system in decline,” Malami said. “Nigeria is in dire need of a new leadership model anchored on justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal.”
He assured citizens, especially those from his home state of Kebbi, that his move to the ADC reflects a renewed commitment to amplifying their voices and restoring hope to millions across the country.
Malami’s defection comes amid growing momentum within the opposition coalition, which recently took over the structure of the ADC and appointed new interim leaders, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
