Flash Flood Destroys Bridges, Homes and Farmlands in Kebbi

Communities in Kebbi State are counting their losses after a flash flood swept through parts of Dandi and Suru Local Government Areas, destroying bridges, homes, and farmlands.
The disaster, which struck on Thursday, led to the collapse of two key bridges—one in Fana township and another along the Dakingari-Kyangakwai road. Several villages were submerged, leaving residents displaced and farmlands devastated.
Deputy Governor Senator Umar Tafida visited affected communities in Fana, Aljannare, and Kampani to convey the government’s condolences and deliver emergency relief. He announced a support package worth ₦70 million alongside food supplies to cushion the impact.
According to Tafida, the state government provided ₦50 million and 600 bags of rice to victims in Fana, Maigwaza, and Tungar Beddi in Dandi LGA; ₦10 million and 250 bags of rice to Aljannare in Suru LGA; and another ₦10 million and 250 bags of rice to Kampani village in Argungu LGA. During his visit, he assured residents that plans were underway to reconstruct the collapsed bridges.
The deputy governor also urged communities in flood-prone areas to move to safer ground. “He prayed for Allah’s protection against future disasters and urged residents to accept the tragedy as an act of God.”
Local leaders expressed deep appreciation for the intervention. Mansur Isah, Chairman of Dandi LGA, confirmed that one life was lost while hundreds of farms and homes were destroyed. Sulaiman Abubakar, representing Dandi constituency, also thanked the government for its swift response.
From Suru, Council Chairman Muhammad Suru commended Governor Nasir Idris for the timely relief and pledged continued support for his administration.
At the Kamfani IDP camp in Argungu, Tafida further announced an additional donation of ₦10 million and 250 bags of rice to support displaced families.
Responding on behalf of the communities, the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Mera, lauded the government’s gesture and reaffirmed the emirate’s support for Governor Idris.
