Fire Guts Sections of Ago Medical Centre in Okota, Lagos

A fire broke out at a storey building housing Ago Medical Centre, located off Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos, on Friday evening.
The blaze was triggered by a power surge when the public electricity supply was restored, causing a spark that ignited the fire.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) responded swiftly, activating the state’s emergency response plan and dispatching its response team from Oshodi after receiving distress calls at 18:29hrs.
Upon arrival at 18:50hrs, LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team found that sections of the building housing the hospital were engulfed in flames. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed that the fire was being contained thanks to the combined efforts of LASEMA’s Fire Unit, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the Lagos Neighbourhood and Security Corps, and the Nigeria Police Force.
While the fire was still being battled at the time of the report, officials are working to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings. The cause of the fire was traced back to the power surge when electricity was restored, sparking the blaze in the hospital’s building.
