FG To Begin Tolling Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway In December – Umahi

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has announced that tolling will begin in December on Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
Umahi made the disclosure during an interview for a forthcoming State House documentary to mark the second anniversary of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“By December, we will toll Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway. We project a 10-year return on investment,” he said.
He highlighted that the highway includes solar-powered lighting, CCTV infrastructure, and carbon credit benefits, describing it as more than just a road.
“It is an economic corridor and a catalyst for regional growth,” Umahi added.
According to him, 30 kilometres of Section 1 have already been completed, while another 10 kilometres in Section 2 are nearing delivery. Both feature six-lane concrete-paved carriageways built to modern standards for safety and durability.
He also confirmed that construction is underway on Sections 3 and 3B, spanning 65 kilometres—38 kilometres in Cross River and 27 kilometres in Akwa Ibom. Umahi said the enthusiastic response from host communities underscores the project’s broader socioeconomic impact.
