FG Closes Case Against Nnamdi Kanu as Defence Plans No-Case Submission

The Federal Government on Thursday formally closed its case in the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who is facing terrorism and treason-related charges.
Government’s lead counsel, Chief Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), announced the decision after the fifth prosecution witness, identified only as EEE for security reasons, concluded his testimony and cross-examination before Justice James Omotosho at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Awomolo told the court that the prosecution had called five witnesses and tendered extensive evidence, including broadcast materials linked to Kanu, which he said were sufficient to establish its case.
Following the closure of the prosecution’s case, lead defence counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), notified the court that the defence would file a no-case submission, arguing that the evidence presented did not warrant Kanu entering a defence.
