FG Begins Payment of N35,000 Wage Award Arrears to Civil Servants

The Federal Government has officially commenced the disbursement of the long-awaited N35,000 wage award arrears to federal civil servants nationwide.
This development was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday by the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), which announced that many workers have already begun receiving credit alerts, with others expected to receive payments in the coming days.
According to Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the OAGF, the payment is being processed in line with the government’s commitment to honour its agreement with the workforce.
“The Federal Government has commenced payment of the N35,000 wage award arrears to federal government workers,” the statement affirmed.
The release of these funds follows sustained pressure from labour unions and public servants, who have consistently called on the government to fulfil its promise.
The N35,000 monthly wage award was part of a set of palliative measures introduced in 2023 to alleviate the economic strain caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. The payment was the outcome of negotiations between the Federal Government and organised labour.
Meanwhile, labour unions have urged the government to maintain transparency and ensure a consistent and fair disbursement process moving forward.
