FG/ASUU Meeting Reschedule as Alausa Insists Only Draft Agreement with Union

A widely publicised meeting between the Nigerian government and the academic staff union of universities, ASUU billed for Thursday, August 27, did not hold as scheduled.
The high-stakes meeting is expected in Abuja on Thursday in a bid to finally close the chapter on the lingering 2009 ASUU agreement with expectation to make a counter offer to the university teachers by the federal government.
ASUU president, Chris Piwana had told newsmen that no invitation was extended to its leadership
Meanwhile, the education minister, Tunju Alausa, insists that the meeting was only meant for the government team.
He said contrary to insinuations, the government has no signed agreement with ASUU, only drafts of agreements
On Wednesday, a statement from the federal Ministry of Education invited the media to a meeting between the federal government and ASUU at the ministry’s office.
Journalists raised concerns when the meeting time was rescheduled, and then the venue moved to the National Commission for colleges of education.
As at the time of this report, ASUU has yet to issue any statement with the latest development
