The Federal Capital Territory Police Command says its sustained clampdown on “one-chance” armed robbery syndicates has led to the arrest of six suspects, the rescue of a victim, and the recovery of their operational vehicle.

In a statement released by SP Josephine Adeh, Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command, the arrests were made by operatives of the Anti-One Chance Unit during a routine patrol on August 6, 2025, at about 8:30 a.m. Officers sighted a woman, later identified as Angel Patrick, being pushed out of a moving vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway.

According to the statement, one team immediately stopped to rescue the victim and rushed her to Zankwochi Hospital, Mabushi, for urgent medical attention, while another team of undercover officers pursued the fleeing suspects to the Aso area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.

Following a hot chase and a fierce gun duel, five suspects — Jude Simon of Mararaba, Emmanuel Akor, Daniel Benson, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola, all from Mpape — were arrested at the scene. Their operational vehicle, a dark grey Toyota Corolla, was recovered. One suspect was neutralized during the exchange of fire and later confirmed dead at Asokoro General Hospital.

Police investigations further revealed that one of the suspects, John Simon, had previously been arrested in December 2024 for the same offence, charged, and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre.

Items recovered from the gang include one vehicle, six ATM cards suspected to belong to previous victims, one jackknife, ₦115,000 cash, and other personal items. The suspects, who confessed to being “one-chance” operators, admitted to engaging in the crime for several years.
