FCT Police Intervene in Kuchibyi Land Dispute, Condemn Attack on Officers

Tensions flared in the Kuchibyi community of the Federal Capital Territory following a violent unrest linked to a land ownership dispute, prompting a swift response from the FCT Police Command.
The unrest, which broke out under the jurisdiction of the Byazin Division, was confirmed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh. This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday, revealing that Divisional Police Officers from Byazin and Kubwa responded quickly to a distress call and were able to bring the situation under control. Several arrests were made, and investigations are currently ongoing.
The Police further clarified that the disturbance was purely a communal issue, unrelated to any police operation. The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, condemned the violent actions of some youths who attacked officers deployed to de-escalate the situation.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the actions of youths attacking police officers who were on a mission to restore law and order in a troubled area,” the statement read. “He warned that such behavior will not be condoned and that firm action will be taken against anyone who attacks police officers or any security agency while they are responding to distress calls.”
The Command urged young residents of the FCT to refrain from violence and lawlessness, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace in their communities.
“The Command urges the youth to be law-abiding, desist from acts capable of breaching the peace or inciting violence, thus remaining a dependable allies in the overall security of FCT,” the statement added.
Police authorities reaffirmed their commitment to the safety and security of all residents in the Federal Capital Territory, promising to provide further updates as investigations progress.
