Father Of Slain Photojournalist Dies Days After Collapsing

James Aiyepeku, father of 26-year-old photojournalist Ayo Aiyepeku who was murdered in Lokoja, Kogi State, has passed away just days after collapsing.

The family confirmed his death to TVC News on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Ayo, an indigene of Ekinrin Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was allegedly lured and killed by a correctional service officer, Adebayo Pelumi. The suspect reportedly fled with Ayo’s body, triggering a police manhunt to find both him and the victim’s remains.

Pelumi was later found dead in a Lokoja hotel, with investigators recovering a bottle of poison and a handwritten note at the scene, pointing to possible suicide.

Days later, Ayo’s body was discovered in a bush near the Crusher area of Lokoja. Security operatives recovered his remains and deposited them at the Specialist Hospital in Lokoja as investigations continue.

Before his death, a heartbroken James Aiyepeku had publicly demanded justice for his son, expressing deep pain over the tragic killing.
