Father Of Boy In Ike Ekweremadu Organ Harvesting Case Dies Of Heartbreak

Published

The father of Ukpo Nwamini David, the young man at the center of the organ trafficking case involving former Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, has passed away.

David was taken to the United Kingdom in 2022 for a kidney transplant intended for Ekweremadu’s ailing daughter, a case that later led to the senator’s conviction.

Family sources told DAILY POST that the deceased, whose name was not immediately disclosed, allegedly died of heartbreak on Sunday afternoon after years of being unable to see or communicate with his son.

Confirming the development, one of the deceased’s sons, Boniface Nwamini Ukpo, said: “Yes, my father died yesterday (Sunday) afternoon by 12 p.m. It’s so sad that since the incident happened in 2022, we have not spoken with my brother, David Nwamini. So, my father has been sick over the saga, and yesterday he finally died.”

The tragic news comes in the wake of the high-profile case that saw Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife Beatrice, and Nigerian doctor Obinna Obeta jailed by a London court for trafficking David from Lagos to the UK in a plot to illegally harvest his kidney.

In May 2023, the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service announced that Ekweremadu had been sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison. His wife received four years and six months, while Obeta, described as a middleman, was sentenced to 10 years. All three were convicted in March 2023 of conspiring to arrange the travel of David Nwamini for organ harvesting.
