Ex-PDP Chairman’s Son, Mamman Ali, Jailed 14 Years For ₦2.2 Billion Oil Subsidy Fraud

A Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced Mamman Nasir Ali, the son of former PDP National Chairman Ahmadu Ali, and a Sierra Leonean, Christian Taylor, to 14 years in prison each for their involvement in a ₦2.2 billion oil subsidy fraud.
Justice Mojisola Dada delivered the judgment on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, also convicting their company, Nasaman Oil Services Limited, after finding them guilty on a 57-count amended charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The defendants were first arraigned in 2012 on a 49-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, forgery, and use of false documents—offences that contravene the Advance Fee Fraud Act of 2006 and the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2011.
According to the EFCC, the convicts fraudulently obtained ₦2.2 billion from the Federal Government under the petroleum subsidy scheme around September 9, 2011. The commission revealed they submitted falsified documents, including a forged “Gasoline Analysis” report for the vessel MT Overseas Limar, which was purportedly issued by Saybolt Concremat.
In her ruling, Justice Dada described the prosecution’s evidence as “compelling,” stating that the actions of the convicts not only defrauded the government but also damaged the integrity of Nigeria’s oil subsidy programme.
Beyond the prison sentence, the court ordered the forfeiture of assets and bank accounts linked to the fraudulent scheme. Justice Dada also issued arrest warrants for two other suspects, Oluwaseun Ogunbambo and Olabisi Abdul Afeez, who are still at large.
