Elon Musk Says He Regrets Posts About Trump Amid Public Fallout

Billionaire Elon Musk has expressed regret over several posts he made about U.S. President Donald Trump during their recent clash on social media.
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” Musk wrote on his platform, X.
Their fallout began after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s tax bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.” The bill, which includes major tax breaks and increased defense spending, was passed by the House of Representatives and is now under review in the Senate.
Trump responded by saying their relationship was finished and accused Musk of being disrespectful. “You could not disrespect the office of the president,” he said in an interview with NBC.
Musk had also urged Americans to contact their lawmakers to oppose the bill, warning that it could trigger a recession in the second half of the year.
The tension escalated when Musk, without offering any evidence, claimed Trump was mentioned in unreleased government files related to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein—a claim the White House strongly denied.
In response, Trump said Musk had “lost his mind” and even threatened to cancel the billionaire’s government contracts, which are estimated to be worth $38 billion.
Musk later deleted most of the controversial posts, including one calling for Trump’s impeachment and another in which he claimed to have helped Trump win the election.
The clash is particularly surprising, as Musk had been one of Trump’s biggest donors in the 2024 presidential campaign and was seen as a close ally. The situation worsened shortly after Musk resigned from the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge), just 129 days into the role.
