Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ To Challenge U.S. Political Status Quo

Billionaire tech mogul Elon Musk announced on Saturday the formation of a new political party — the America Party — aimed at disrupting what he called the United States’ entrenched “one-party system.”
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, once a top donor and ally to former President Donald Trump, unveiled the party via his social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), declaring that it was time to return freedom to Americans.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
The announcement marks a dramatic escalation in Musk’s feud with Trump, which began after their political alliance fractured. Musk had previously served as head of the now-defunct “Department of Government Efficiency,” where he pushed aggressive budget cuts and layoffs — a campaign supported by Trump before tensions arose.
The billionaire cited results from a poll he conducted on July 4, where he asked his X followers if they desired independence from the traditional two-party system. More than 1.2 million users voted, with twice as many respondents supporting the idea of a new party.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it!” Musk wrote.
Tensions between the two powerful figures flared last month after Musk condemned Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping piece of legislation that adds an estimated $3.4 trillion to the U.S. deficit over the next decade. Musk criticized the bill as an act of “debt slavery” and accused Republicans of betraying promises to reduce federal spending.
In response, Trump reportedly threatened to revoke federal contracts awarded to Musk’s companies and hinted at exploring legal grounds to deport him, despite Musk’s U.S. citizenship since 2002.
“We’ll have to take a look,” Trump told reporters when asked if he was considering deportation.
With the launch of the America Party, Musk positions himself as a disruptive force in U.S. politics, seeking to draw support from independents, moderates, and conservatives disillusioned with the status quo.
