EFCC Arrests Former Plateau Speaker Moses Sule, 14 Ex-Lawmakers Over N2.5 Billion Vehicle Scandal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Moses Sule, along with 14 other former lawmakers over alleged money laundering and abuse of office.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrests in a statement issued Wednesday in Abuja, stating that the operation was carried out by the commission’s Makurdi Zonal Directorate following multiple petitions from concerned citizens in Plateau State.
According to Oyewale, the ex-lawmakers allegedly violated provisions of the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, and were also implicated in irregular procurement practices.
Those arrested alongside Sule include Gwottson Fom, Sani Abubakar, Jwe Gwom, Timothy Dantong, Happiness Akawu, Cornelius Doeyok, Agbalak Ibrahim, Danjuma Azi, Fwangje Ndat, Salome Waklet, Namba Rimuyat, Nimchak Rims, Ishaku Maren, and Paul Datugun.
Investigations revealed that the lawmakers, who only served six months in office, received luxury vehicles worth ₦2.5 billion during their tenure. The vehicles were to be returned after leaving office, but the former legislators allegedly took them away, and efforts to recover them have failed.
The EFCC added that due to this, the Plateau State Government had to procure another set of vehicles for current lawmakers, costing an additional ₦2 billion.
Oyewale stated that the suspects will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
