EFCC Arrests Benue Governor’s Aide Over Alleged Sextortion and Cyberbullying

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Dr. Mkor Aondona, Special Adviser to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia on Documentation, Research, and Planning, over serious allegations of sextortion and cyberbullying.
According to a statement by the EFCC, Aondona was apprehended on Thursday, June 20, in Makurdi following multiple petitions from female students. The complainants accused him of luring them under the guise of offering ushering jobs, demanding sexual favors, secretly recording intimate encounters without consent, and using the videos to blackmail his victims.
The commission also revealed that some of these non-consensual videos were allegedly circulated via social media and messaging platforms, further intensifying public outrage.
EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed Aondona’s arrest, stating that he is currently in custody and will be formally charged in court as investigations progress.
The charges, once filed, are expected to include violations of Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act and laws relating to sexual exploitation and blackmail.
The EFCC emphasized its commitment to ensuring justice is served, especially in cases involving abuse of power and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals.
