EDO2024: Senator Okpebholo Clinches APC Governorship Ticket

Senator Monday Okpebholo has won the APC primary election for the 2024 Edo State governorship race..

Okpebholo obtained a grand total of 12,433 votes, which was higher than the number of votes secured by the other eleven contenders..

Governor Bassey Otu, Chairman of the Revised APC Edo Gubernatorial Election Committee, announced the election results on Friday..

He said the primary recorded 41,784 votes, with 31,863 accredited voters.

According to him, all votes cast were valid, amounting to 31,863, and no invalid votes were reported.

Senator Monday Okpebholo won 12,433 votes to defeat his closest rival, Agba Clement, who scored 2,732 votes.

The primary election took place following the annulment of an earlier one, which resulted in different candidates being declared by the National Working Committee of the party.

The NWC, in a statement released last Tuesday, declared the initial primary inconclusive.

In the same vein, Olumide Akpata, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has secured the Labour Party (LP) ticket for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State in September 2024.

Akpata won the election in Benin City, Edo State with 316 votes on Friday..

Ikechukwu Emeta, the Deputy Governor of Abia State, who served as the chief returning officer for the election, declared Akpata the winner of the primary election, having scored the highest number of votes, and certified the provisions of the party’s constitution.

Expressing gratitude, Akpata paid tribute to the late Rotimi Akeredolu, a former governor of Ondo State and NBA president, who was buried on the same day.

Akpata thanked his supporters and pledged to work for the betterment of the state if he wins the governorship election..
