Edo community in Kano condemns Uromi killings, calls for Justice

The President of the Edo Community in Kano, Elder Dr. Patrick Agba, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, describing it as a “barbaric and unfortunate incident.”
Addressing journalists in Kano, Dr. Agba expressed deep solidarity with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo in their strong denunciation of the attack. The victims, mostly hunters from northern Nigeria, were reportedly ambushed by a vigilante group and armed youths on March 27, 2025.
He called for a swift and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law. “Edo people are peace-loving and do not support acts of violence or lawlessness,” he stated, emphasizing the need for unity and justice.
The Edo Community in Kano extended its condolences to the Kano State Government, the families of the victims, and the wider public. The attack has sparked widespread outrage, with many decrying the lawlessness that led to the killings.
Authorities have arrested 14 suspects in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing. The Kano State Government has also condemned the act and urged a comprehensive probe to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Speaking further, the Sarki Edo in Kano, Fred Akhigbe, stressed that the tragic event does not reflect the values of the Edo people, who have always lived in peace with others. “This is an affront to national unity, and we completely reject it. The government must ensure that justice prevails,” he said.
Dr. Agba and the Sarki Edo commended President Tinubu and Governor Okpebholo for their swift response, noting that their firm stance would help foster peace and harmony across Nigeria.
Earlier, The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 16 hunters in Udune Efandion, Uromi Local Government Area of Edo State, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.
