Ebonyi Lawmaker Accused of Fueling Communal Crisis for NEMA Relief

Tensions remain high in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, where a lingering communal conflict between the Inyimegu and Ekpoamaka communities has resulted in casualties, displacement, and widespread destruction.
Amid calls for federal intervention, a disturbing allegation has surfaced — suggesting that a serving federal lawmaker from Ebonyi State may be complicit in prolonging the violence in order to attract relief materials and financial incentives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
The claim, made by a concerned resident on Facebook, points to an alleged pattern of manipulation of community crises for personal and political gain.
“If I say it’s possible that a given federal lawmaker from my state stokes intercommunity wars so he can get incentives for disaster soothing from NEMA, you might doubt it,” the source said.
The source further added, in a veiled but troubling statement: “There’s how long a man lives by spilling blood — and water becomes thicker than blood to him.”
The comment appears to allude to a deepening moral detachment from the human cost of the violence, and raises questions about who benefits most from the continued unrest.
The crisis between Inyimegu and Ekpoamaka, according to local reports, has seen several violent clashes over the past days , with homes burned and families displaced. Despite this, long-term peace efforts remain minimal, and the response from state and federal authorities has been described as reactive and inadequate.
Efforts by NAIJA NEWS TODAY to reach the lawmaker believed to be the subject of the allegations were unsuccessful.
A local human rights advocate, who asked not to be named, told NAIJA NEWS TODAY that “if these allegations are true, they represent a dangerous precedent — where violence becomes a tool for profiteering.”
Residents continue to live in fear as tensions remain unresolved. Meanwhile, humanitarian needs in both communities are growing, with displaced persons lacking shelter, food, and medical care.
