Ebonyi Governor Approves Employment of 35 Guest Artists

The Ebonyi State Government has approved a waiver for the recruitment of **35 talented guest artists to revive the State Cultural Troupe, following the retirement of most of its long-serving performers.
The decision was part of the resolutions reached at the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting held on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, and chaired by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru at the Government House, Abakaliki.
According to a statement by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh, the new recruits will include dancers, dramatists, choral singers, and instrumentalists, all of whom will be drawn from a pool of young and skilled artists.
“The move is aimed at filling the vacuum created by the retirement of several members of the State Council for Arts and Culture and repositioning the troupe for better performance at cultural events,” the statement read.
The approval marks a renewed push by the state government to invest in arts and culture, using the sector as a platform for youth engagement, employment, and tourism promotion.
