Ebonyi Government Condemns Alleged Media Attacks on Governor Nwifuru

The Ebonyi State Government has strongly condemned what it described as a sustained social media campaign against Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, allegedly led by the head of a privately-owned radio station in Abakaliki and another individual identified as a coordinator of a Spelling Bee competition.

In a press statement obtained by Naija News Today on Friday, August 8, 2025, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, accused the duo of using media platforms to “attack and run down” the administration despite benefiting from the governor’s goodwill.

According to the statement, the governor had gifted the station a brand-new Changan SUV, provided a new transformer to power its operations, and constructed the access road leading to its broadcasting house.

“It is regrettable that despite the radio station thriving only on government support and Oosa herbal, the supposed helmsman dedicates greater percentage of the station’s airtime to attack and run down the government whose support has kept his medium afloat,” Dr. Uzor said.

The government also alleged that some commentators were “junketing from one medium to another in the guise of public affairs commentary” solely to criticize Ebonyi-focused policies.

Dr. Uzor called on the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) to examine the actions of the accused individuals in line with professional codes and ethics.

He urged the public to disregard “content creators and their agents commissioned to suppress the rising profile of Ebonyi State in the comity of states in Nigeria.”
