The Ebonyi State Executive Council has approved a series of major decisions spanning infrastructure, agriculture, education, and housing regulation.

The resolutions were reached at its meetings held on March 4 and March 17, 2026, presided over by Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru.

EXCO ordered the immediate termination of all uncompleted 2km rural road projects, citing abandonment by contractors and poor quality of work. The council had earlier raised concerns over the slow pace of execution and directed monitoring teams to assess the projects.

To boost rural development, the council approved the release of N300 million as the state’s 10 percent counterpart funding for the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) for the 2026 fiscal year.

In the housing sector, EXCO proposed a bill to regulate landlord and tenant practices, including capping house agents’ fees at two percent of total rent. Another bill was also proposed to regulate the sale and movement of metal and electrical scraps to curb vandalism and enhance public safety.

As part of efforts to improve agricultural productivity, the council approved N500 million for the procurement of 250 power tillers to support farmers ahead of the 2026 farming season.

On education, EXCO directed the arrest of contractors handling 22 model secondary schools who have failed to meet required project levels despite receiving funds, with a view to recovering government resources.

The council also reviewed progress on its foreign scholarship programme, noting that 202 out of 204 beneficiaries have completed their master’s degrees and are now pursuing PhDs. It added that 84 additional students have recently departed for studies abroad.

In the area of energy and investment, EXCO approved plans to host investors proposing waste-to-energy and solar projects, with land allocated at Ezzamgbo for the initiative.

The council further approved the construction of an ultra-modern clinic at the Government House and the installation of air-conditioning systems at the Ebonyi Trade Centre at a cost of N1.3 billion.

In the cultural sector, EXCO approved the rebuilding of the palace of Akanu Ibiam, in honour of the late elder statesman and former Eastern Region governor.

The decisions were contained in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebeh, on March 18, 2026.
