The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State has officially sworn in over 3,900 corps members of the 2026 Batch A, Stream II, marking the beginning of their mandatory national service year.
The ceremony took place at the state’s orientation camp amid the presence of government officials and dignitaries.
Representing the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mobolaji Ogunlende, welcomed the new corps members. He described the orientation programme as a vital stage in shaping the character and readiness of Nigerian youths for national service.

According to him, the three-week orientation exercise is designed to instill discipline, patriotism, endurance, and leadership qualities. He urged participants to engage actively in all camp activities, with particular emphasis on the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which aims to foster self-reliance beyond the service year.
In her remarks, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Christiana Salmwang, explained that the orientation course is carefully structured to prepare corps members physically, mentally, and morally for the responsibilities ahead.

She also encouraged them to take part in socio-cultural activities that promote unity and national integration, while commending the Lagos State Government for its continued support for youth development.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including representatives of the judiciary, military, and paramilitary agencies, as well as officials from organizations such as the Nigerian Red Cross and Man O’ War.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance, during which the corps members pledged to uphold the NYSC bye-laws and serve the nation with dedication throughout their service year.
