A public exchange between the senator representing Ebonyi Central, Ken Eze, and a prominent political cum business figure in the zone, Christian Asaga Nwali, has triggered discussions about a possible political transition in the constituency.
The incident occurred during a burial ceremony in Ezza South, where both men were in attendance alongside community members and political stakeholders.
According to video Shared online, Senator Ken questioned Nwali’s political moves, stating, “I am an Oracle, I am an institution, you should have consulted me first,” in what appeared to be a demand for recognition of his influence.
Mr Nwali, however, responded by referencing his support for the senator during the 2023 elections.
“In 2023, you didn’t consult me, but I threw my weight behind you. I supported you and worked hard for your emergence. It is time for you to reciprocate,” he said.
Observers said the exchange ended without further rebuttal from the senator, who reportedly stepped back, a reaction that has been widely interpreted as a tacit acknowledgment of Mr Nwali’s growing political standing.
Although there has been no formal announcement regarding any resignation or withdrawal, the incident has fuelled speculation among political actors in Ebonyi Central about a possible realignment ahead of future contests.
Analysts note that in Nigeria’s political context, such public encounters particularly when they involve references to past political support, often signal underlying negotiations or shifts in influence.
