EBHA Hails Governor Nwifuru’s Two-Year Milestone, Passes Vote of Confidence

In a plenary session held at the Legislative Complex, Nkaliki Road, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State House of Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, as he approaches his two-year anniversary in office.
The session, presided over by the Speaker of the House, Chief Moses Ije Odunwa, was marked by resounding commendations from lawmakers who praised the Governor’s performance across key sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, human capital development, and water resources.
Leading the motion, Speaker Odunwa noted that Governor Nwifuru, who assumed office on May 29, 2023, has made “tremendous impacts” in his short time in office and described his leadership as ingenious and people-oriented.
“In the next 48 hours, this administration will mark its second anniversary. It is clear to all that Governor Nwifuru has delivered commendably on his promises to the people of Ebonyi State,” Odunwa stated.
Echoing this sentiment, the Leader of the House, Chief Kingsley Ikoro, emphasized the Governor’s success in implementing the “People’s Charter of Needs,” the administration’s guiding development framework.
“From infrastructure to healthcare, education, and grassroots empowerment, the Charter has been faithfully executed,” Ikoro said while moving a motion for a vote of confidence in the Governor. The motion was seconded by Hon. Chikezie Igu of Ohaozara East Constituency.
Lawmakers from across the state took turns to highlight specific impacts of Governor Nwifuru’s leadership in their respective constituencies.
Hon. Ifeanyi Nwakpu of Ikwo North described the Governor as “a righteous leader” whose development projects speak for themselves. He cited progress in education, agriculture, and health as evidence of responsive governance.
“In our oversight visits, we witnessed the Governor’s projects firsthand. From schools to farmer support, the results are everywhere,” Nwakpu said.
Hon. Chinyere Nwogbaga of Ebonyi North East lauded the Governor for ensuring access to clean water and continuing uncompleted projects initiated by previous administrations. She also praised the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Mary-maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, for her social welfare efforts.
“He has made clean water available to many, and more importantly, brought continuity in governance by completing inherited projects,” Nwogbaga said.
From Ezza South, Hon. Friday Ogbuewu expressed gratitude on behalf of his constituents, noting that the Governor’s achievements in peacebuilding, education, and health had exceeded expectations.
“Even the blind can see his impact. He has brought pride to Ebonyians and silenced political naysayers with performance,” Ogbuewu stated.
Other members, including Chief Joseph Ununu (Deputy Leader), Rt. Hon. Chukwu Arinze Lucas (Deputy Chief Whip), Hon. Victor Chidi Nwoke (Abakaliki North), Hon. Oluchukwu Ukie Ezeali (Afikpo East), Hon. Aloysius Nwodo (Ebonyi North West), Hon. Celestine Ifeanyi Ogba (Onicha East), Hon. Onyebuchi Ogbadu (Ivo), and Hon. Stephen Orji Igwe (Edda East), all lent their voices in support of the Governor and pledged continued collaboration with the executive arm.
In his closing remarks, Speaker Odunwa reiterated the House’s commitment to supporting the Governor in delivering his vision for the state, calling for more initiatives to enhance rural empowerment.
“While we commend what has been achieved so far, we also urge the administration to initiate deliberate programs that uplift more people, especially in rural communities,” he said.
With unanimous consent, the House passed the vote of confidence, sealing its collective endorsement of Governor Nwifuru’s leadership as Ebonyi State prepares to mark two years of his administration.
