DUFUTH Community Health Department to Become One of Nigeria’s Best

The Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) has commended the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) for its readiness to launch both National and Higher National Diploma programmes in Community Health Extension Work (CHEW).
This endorsement followed a two-day accreditation visit by the board to assess the proposed facilities for the new programmes under the DUFUTH College of Health Technology.
During a debriefing session with the Chief Medical Director (CMD) and hospital management, the team, led by Mr. Bartholomew Nwokporo, noted that DUFUTH is on the brink of making history as the first Federal Government Teaching Hospital in Nigeria to independently run a full-fledged Community Health programme from inception.

The CHPRBN team expressed strong satisfaction with the facilities inspected and praised the effective collaboration between the David Umahi Federal University of Science (DUFUS) and its teaching hospital. The synergy, they said, provides a solid foundation for the emerging College of Health Technology.
Despite the positive outlook, the board highlighted several areas requiring urgent attention. These include the procurement of essential office and teaching equipment such as computers, projectors, air conditioners, refrigerators, printers, photocopiers, electronic boards, and utility vehicles.
They also acknowledged the IPPIS enrollment status of the pioneer staff and lecturers, but called for the recruitment of additional personnel and swift completion of the school’s permanent complex to ensure smooth operations.
In response, Prof. Maryrose Agwu, CMD of DUFUTH, expressed gratitude for the board’s visit and pledged to fast-track implementation of the team’s recommendations. However, she raised concerns about the delay in the execution of the 2025 National Budget, which she said could hinder timely development.
