Drama at Abuja Airport: FAAN Accuses K1 De Ultimate of Violating Security Rules With Alcohol

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the recent altercation involving Fuji music icon, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Monday, August 5, and disrupted the boarding of a Lagos-bound ValueJet flight (VK 201). It has since sparked public interest and triggered separate investigations by aviation authorities.
According to FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, the clash began when K1 attempted to board the flight with a liquid substance later identified as alcohol.
“The passenger tried to board with alcohol. He was warned repeatedly, in line with international aviation security regulations, but declined to comply,” Orah stated.
FAAN explained that this act contravened both the National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and international standards under ICAO Annex 17, which prohibit passengers from carrying liquids over 100ml at security checkpoints, except for declared or medically necessary items.
“Despite this, the passenger resisted. When asked to step aside for clarification, he refused and proceeded to spill the liquid—identified as alcohol—on the officer. The flight captain intervened but also faced resistance,” FAAN added.
Although the aircraft doors had been closed, the musician reportedly moved toward the front of the plane and refused to leave until Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel escorted him off. He was later released following a preliminary investigation.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has launched its own review of the matter. The agency earlier suspended the pilot and co-pilot of the flight for a “serious breach of aviation safety,” citing their failure to follow proper pre-departure clearance procedures.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to safety and operational integrity, declaring that “no individual, regardless of status, will be allowed to compromise aviation safety standards.”
The matter remains under investigation, and FAAN has assured the public that anyone found responsible will be held accountable in line with the law.
