Dangote Group Mourns Ruth Otabor, Sister of BBNAIJA Winner Phyna

The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, who died weeks after surviving a ghastly accident involving one of the company’s trucks.
In a statement released on Sunday, August 31, 2025, the company described her death as “a painful loss” despite all medical efforts made to save her life.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ruth Otabor, who was injured in the recent road incident involving one of our trucks in Auchi, Edo State,” the statement read. “On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time.”
The company explained that since the accident, its officials and insurance partners had covered her medical bills and supported the family. It noted that arrangements were already underway for Ruth to be flown to India for advanced treatment before her death.
“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today,” the management stated.
Dangote Group further assured that safety, accountability, and compassion remain central to its operations. “We remain committed to strengthening our safety systems and supporting those affected in moments of tragedy. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest,” it added.
Ruth’s death was earlier confirmed by her family through a statement issued by Eko Solicitors & Advocates. She passed on at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 31, after weeks of battling complications from the accident.
