Crystal Palace beat Liverpool to lift the 2025 FA Community Shield in a dramatic contest that ended 2-2 in regulation time before being decided 3-2 in a penalty shootout.

Liverpool struck first just four minutes into the match when Hugo Ekitiké finished off a quick attacking move to give the Reds the lead. Palace responded midway through the first half after Jean-Philippe Mateta calmly converted a penalty to level the score.

Early in the second half, Liverpool regained the advantage through Jeremie Frimpong, who found the net with a sharp finish. However, Palace refused to back down, and in the closing stages, Ismaïla Sarr capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire in the equaliser, forcing a shootout.

In the penalties, Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson proved decisive, saving efforts from Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott, while Mohamed Salah sent his spot-kick off target. With the score at 2-2 in the shootout, Justin Devenny stepped up and converted the winning penalty, sealing a 3-2 victory for Crystal Palace and their first ever Community Shield triumph.
