Comedian KlintonCod Defends Kemi Badenoch Over FGGC Sagamu “Prison” Comments

Nigerian-British comedian Ekene Clinton Egbuna, popularly known as KlintonCod, has defended UK Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch following backlash over her recent comments about her experience at Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Sagamu.
Badenoch, who spent part of her childhood in Nigeria, described her time at the school as a “prison experience,” citing harsh conditions like having to cut grass and wash toilets without running water. Her remarks sparked outrage from many Nigerians who accused her of insulting the country.
Responding in a series of posts on X, KlintonCod said Badenoch was only being honest about a reality many Nigerians have lived through—especially those who attended boarding schools.
“She said her boarding school in Sagamu was like a prison and everyone is angry,” he wrote. “I’ve told people about my own boys-only boarding school and facts is, it was like a prison too—with huge walls and security. The only difference between us and prisoners was mid-term breaks and holidays. Everything else was the same!”
He went further to compare UK prisons to Nigerian boarding schools:
“I’ve never been to a Nigerian prison, but I’ve worked in UK prisons before, and honestly, those inmates had a better quality of life than I did in boarding school.”
KlintonCod questioned the public hostility toward Badenoch, stating:
“I am yet to find one solid and justifiable reason why Nigerians dislike Kemi Badenoch. The only thing I’ve seen is that she’s ‘too honest,’ and her honesty highlights the negative side of Nigeria—which some people can’t handle.”
Sharing personal experiences, the comedian recounted violent encounters in his own school days, including students attacking each other with machetes, cult clashes, and extreme bullying by seniors.
“In my school, someone in SS3 could use a cutlass to flog you in SS1 because he’s your senior. Any provisions your parents brought were basically for the senior watching you as they left. If an average British kid went through what we did, they’d need therapy for life!”
He concluded by saying Badenoch’s description was even mild compared to what many boys experienced, and insisted that being honest about Nigeria’s flaws shouldn’t be met with hate.
