Chukwu Meets Mass Communication Students, Sets Agenda

The newly appointed head of the Mass Communication department at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike (AEFUNAI),Dr. Joe Chukwu has hit the ground running with a clear vision for the department.
In his first official engagement on September 6, 2024, Dr. Joe addressed students from 100 to 400 levels, stressed the importance of academic excellence, moral values, and responsible behavior.
“I told them that the main reason their parents sent them to school is to acquire education. These parents are suffering several deprivations and pains to accomplish this. Therefore, this should be uppermost in their minds,” Dr. Joe stated.
He also stressed the need for Mass Communication Students to respect the law. He said, “They should at all times be on the right side of the law governing the school and society. The law is no respecter of persons.”
Dr. Joe further advised students to regularly check their results to avoid extra years and ensure seamless final clearance.
He also announced that the department will maintain an open-door policy. He said, “We are following the same open door policy of the Vice-Chancellor. Consequently, I made my phone number available to them for ease of contact.”
On the issue of exam malpractice and cultism, Dr. Joe was clear:
The school and, by extension, our department has zero tolerance for exam malpractice and cultism. Therefore, they should flee from them.
He also reminded students that services in the department are free and encouraged them to report any cases of extortion.
The HOD addressed the sensitive topic of sexual relationships between lecturers and students. He described it as “incest and abomination.” He urged students to refrain from seducing lecturers or succumbing to sexual overtures.
