Chris Brown Granted £5M Bail With Travel Privileges Amid Bottle Attack Charge

American singer Chris Brown has been released on £5 million bail following his arrest in connection with an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 36-year-old R&B star was arrested in Manchester last Thursday after arriving in the UK on a private jet and staying at the Lowry Hotel in Salford. He has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm to music producer Abe Diaw during an alleged altercation at Tape nightclub in Mayfair in February 2023.
Despite the charges, Brown will be allowed to continue his international tour under strict bail conditions. His passport will be held by police and lawyers and only released for scheduled tour dates in Europe, the US, and Canada.
Prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe KC told Southwark Crown Court that the passport would be transferred between legal representatives in the UK and US to ensure Brown remains traceable while touring. It will be lodged with a US lawyer during his American dates and then returned to UK authorities.
Brown, who did not attend the bail hearing, is due to begin his 20-year anniversary tour next month, with shows scheduled across Europe, the UK, and North America.
Additional bail terms include residing in the UK, avoiding the Tape nightclub, and having no contact with his co-defendant, Dallas rapper Omolulu Akinlolu, the complainant, or any witnesses.
Judge Tony Baumgartner expressed concern about Brown potentially fleeing the country and requested more details on the singer’s net worth to assess the security of the bail. Brown’s lawyer, Sallie Bennett-Jenkins KC, said efforts were being made to confirm his financial standing during proceedings.
A case management hearing has been scheduled for October 24.
