China to Introduce New K Visa for Stem Professionals from October 1

China will from October 1, 2025, introduce a new K Visa category designed to attract young professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The new visa will be open to recent graduates and early-career researchers, without requiring applicants to have a Chinese employer or sponsor at the time of application.
Holders of the visa will be permitted to engage in research, teaching, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange. The scheme also promises flexible terms, including longer stays, multiple entries, and a simplified application process.
The initiative is part of China’s “Talent Power Strategy,” which seeks to enhance the country’s innovation ecosystem through international expertise.
Authorities said detailed guidelines covering eligibility, age limits, and application procedures will be announced soon.
China’s move comes as more countries compete for global talent by creating special visa programmes for highly skilled professionals in technology and science.
