Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson Apologizes After Red Card in Club World Cup Loss to Flamengo

Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has publicly apologized after receiving a red card in the club’s crucial Club World Cup group-stage defeat to Flamengo.
The Senegalese forward, who came on as a second-half substitute on his 24th birthday, was sent off just minutes later for a dangerous studs-up challenge on Ayrton Lucas. His dismissal added to growing concerns over his disciplinary record, marking his second red card in just four matches. He had previously been suspended for violent conduct in May during a Premier League clash against Newcastle — a ban he has yet to fully serve.
Taking to social media, Jackson expressed remorse for his actions:
“I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and all the fans watching — I let you down. I’m so angry at myself… No excuses. I take full responsibility. I’ll reflect, I’ll grow, and I’ll come back stronger.”
The incident couldn’t have come at a worse time for Chelsea, who are now under pressure to win their final group match against ES Tunis to stay in the competition. Jackson’s suspension opens the door for new signing Liam Delap, who is now in contention to lead the line ahead of the Premier League season.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will need to quickly address Jackson’s disciplinary issues as the Blues navigate a tense moment in their Club World Cup campaign.
