ChatGPT Faces Major Global Outage, Disrupting Users Worldwide

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, OpenAI’s widely used AI chatbot, ChatGPT, suffered a significant global outage, rendering the service inaccessible to thousands of users across multiple continents.
The disruption, which also affected OpenAI’s text-to-video platform, Sora, was most pronounced in the United States and India, where the highest number of complaints were reported.
OpenAI acknowledged the issue on its system status page, stating, “Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed services. We are actively investigating the problem.” No estimated timeline for full service restoration was provided.
According to real-time monitoring platform Downdetector, outage reports surged around 5:30 a.m. ET, reflecting a rapid increase in user complaints. Those attempting to access ChatGPT encountered error messages such as “Hmm…something seems to have gone wrong” and “A network error occurred. Please check your connection and try again.”
The outage triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with users voicing frustration, sharing memes, and highlighting their growing dependence on AI tools for work, education, and daily tasks.
