CCTV Captures Nigerian Woman Stealing ₦300K Worth of Wigs

A Nigerian woman has gone viral online after being captured on CCTV allegedly stealing two luxury wigs—a bone straight and a pixie cut—reportedly valued at ₦300,000 from a beauty store.
The incident was brought to public attention by user @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter), who shared footage of the confrontation between the suspect and the shop owner. In the video, the woman appears visibly distressed as the owner accuses her of theft.
Unaware that the store was under surveillance, the woman had allegedly taken the wigs discreetly. However, the store’s CCTV system recorded the incident, providing clear evidence of the theft.
During the confrontation, the suspect pleaded with the store owner not to expose her, saying, “Aunty, I don’t want embarrassment.” Despite her request, the shop owner insisted on publicizing the incident, ensuring her face was shown in the video.
The video quickly gained traction online, sparking a flurry of reactions. While many users condemned the act, others expressed concerns about public shaming and the increasing frequency of shoplifting incidents caught on camera.
Here are some reactions from users on X:
- @CRawkeen: “You don’t want embarrassment but you want to steal. Oni jeun to da.”
- @sisiolojuede: “She’s bold. Who knows if the wig she’s wearing was also stolen?”
- @amaechi_josh: “She stole bone straight and now she’s trying to bone her face for us!”
- @BenRmc_: “If she wasn’t caught, she’d be online telling girls not to settle for less. Ole!”
- @afia_visuals: “I dislike this. Just send her to jail. No need for long talk.”
- @MaryPearl_: “Why go this far? Just to keep up with societal trends? I’m ashamed on her behalf.”
- @Pahto30bg: “Why is it that whenever girls are caught stealing, they always put a phone to their ear—who are they even calling?”
