Buratai Denies Reports Of Terrorist Attack On His Convoy In Borno

Former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, has denied claims that his convoy was attacked by suspected terrorists in Borno State.

The allegation was made by Borno Senator Ali Ndume during an appearance on Channels TV’s Politics Today, where he stated that Buratai had come under attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents in the state.

However, in a statement released on Monday by former army spokesperson Sani Usman, Buratai dismissed the claim as false and misleading, confirming he has been in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) throughout the period in question.

“For the avoidance of doubt, he celebrated the Eid festivities peacefully in Abuja, in the company of family, friends, and well-wishers, and has remained within the Federal Capital Territory since then,” the statement read.

Usman described the claim as “mischievous and utterly false,” accusing those behind the story of spreading fear and confusion.

“This baseless rumour is a product of the reckless imagination of the purveyors of fake news, individuals whose sole aim is to malign him, spread fear, confusion, and misinformation,” he stated. “The fabricators of these actions are not only mischievous but also deeply irresponsible and must be condemned in the strongest terms.”

Buratai also extended appreciation to Nigerians who reached out to confirm his well-being.

“I sincerely extend my heartfelt and profound appreciation to the countless patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians, friends, associates, and admirers of His Excellency who reached out with genuine concern, prayers, and goodwill,” the statement added. “Your overwhelming show of love and support is deeply cherished.”
