Buhari’s Remains Arrive Katsina, Headed to Daura for Burial

The body of late former President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’adua International Airport in Katsina and is being transported to Daura, his hometown, for burial.

The Nigerian Air Force aircraft carrying Buhari’s remains touched down at approximately 1:59 p.m. on Tuesday. His body, wrapped in the national flag, was received by military personnel and lowered from the aircraft with full honors.

Accompanying the late president’s remains were Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and members of the Buhari family.

President Bola Tinubu was present at the airport to receive the body, joined by First Lady Remi Tinubu, who was seen consoling Aisha Buhari, the widow of the deceased.

Also present were Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, members of the Katsina State Executive Council, and several dignitaries who gathered to pay their respects.

Following a military farewell parade, the cortege departed for Daura, where Buhari will be buried in accordance with Islamic rites later today.

The late president’s body left London earlier on Tuesday morning. Buhari passed away on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m. at The London Clinic after a prolonged illness. He was 82.

Buhari remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent leaders, having served as military head of state from 1984 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.
