Buhari to be Buried in Daura on Tuesday, July 15

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Umaru Radda, has announced that the remains of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, will arrive his home state by noon on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, with burial scheduled to follow in Daura at 2:00pm in line with Islamic rites.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday, Governor Radda explained that the arrangements were concluded after consultations with the family of the late president and close associates in London, where Buhari passed away on Sunday at a hospital.
He extended condolences on behalf of the Katsina State Government and the people of the state to Buhari’s family and all Nigerians mourning the loss of what he described as a national icon.
Meanwhile, documentation to formally release the late president’s body has commenced in London. The remains would be handed over once all paperwork is completed.
Earlier on Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima and President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, landed in London to receive the body. They were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum; and other dignitaries.
Back in Daura, the president’s hometown, mourners have continued to gather at his residence. Friends, neighbours and political associates described Buhari as a man of humility, simplicity and generosity, whose legacy would be cherished for generations.
One of his close associates, Sulaiman Yarin-Katsina, noted that the late president remained closely connected to his community throughout his life, despite his national stature.
Although security has been tightened in and around the Daura Emirate Council and key roads leading to the residence, commercial activities continue as normal in the area.
Among those who have paid condolence visits to the family are Deputy Governor of Katsina, Faruk Jobe; Deputy Chief of Staff, Mukhtar Saulawa; APC State Chairman, Sani Daura; Commissioner for Internal Security, Nasiru Danmusa; former SUBEB Chairman, Lawal Daura; and AIG Zone 14, Aliyu Musa.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who served from May 29, 2015 to May 29, 2023, died at the age of 83. Before his democratic presidency, he served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
Tributes continue to pour in from across the nation, with many remembering him as a leader defined by integrity, discipline, and dedication to national service.
