Buhari Hails Tinubu At Midterm, Urges National Support For Ongoing Reforms

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on reaching the midpoint of his first term in office, commending his leadership and urging continued public support for the administration’s reform agenda.
In a statement released on May 28, 2025, and signed by his spokesman Garba Shehu, Buhari described leadership as a “continuous journey” and emphasized the importance of patience and perseverance in implementing reforms.
As the All Progressives Congress (APC) marks its second year in government under Tinubu, Buhari advised that the much-needed reforms should not be derailed by “nettlesome domestic politics.” He reiterated that genuine change takes time and cannot be achieved overnight.
The former president also expressed his backing for Tinubu’s efforts to combat poverty and inflation, acknowledging the heavy toll these challenges have taken on the nation’s most vulnerable.
“Reducing poverty and inflation is a massive task that must not be left to the government alone. The private sector and all of us as citizens must join in all ways we can,” Buhari said.
He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic and keep faith in the country’s future.
“Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy,” he added.
Buhari concluded his message with a personal note to Tinubu: “I am wishing President Tinubu heartfelt congratulations on his two years in office. May you keep leading with wisdom and care.”
