Brown Ideye Announces Retirement From Professional Football After Illustrious Career With Super Eagles

Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 36.
Taking to his X page, Ideye shared a heartfelt message expressing gratitude for the journey football has given him. “After much thought and consideration with mixed emotions, I’ve decided to retire from professional football. I thank God for the talent and the long career I’ve enjoyed,” he wrote.
Ideye also thanked his family, friends, agents, sports journalists, coaches, teammates, and fans for their support throughout his career. He reflected on the joys, challenges, and unforgettable memories football brought him, including the opportunity to travel, form lifelong friendships, and represent Nigeria at the international level.
“My time as a pro player has come to an end, but football will always be part of my life as I enter my next chapter,” he added.
Ideye’s career spanned over a decade, featuring stints at clubs including Neuchâtel Xamax, Sochaux, Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, Olympiacos, and Enyimba FC. He earned 28 caps for the Nigerian national team, scoring six goals, and was part of the squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Fans and fellow footballers have flooded social media with tributes, celebrating Ideye’s contributions to Nigerian football and wishing him success in his next chapter.
Captioning his farewell message, Ideye simply wrote: “Thank you all.”
