Borussia Dortmund Sign Carney Chukwuemeka From Chelsea In £24m Deal

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of England youth international Carney Chukwuemeka from Chelsea on a five-year deal worth up to £24m.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, leaves Chelsea after making 32 appearances following his £20m move from Aston Villa in 2022.

Chelsea defender Aaron Anselmino has also agreed a season-long loan switch to Dortmund and has traveled to Germany to finalize the move.

Chukwuemeka’s transfer takes Chelsea’s summer sales beyond £270m, almost offsetting the £277m spent on new arrivals. UEFA has instructed the Blues to record a positive transfer balance this window to register their signings for the Champions League, following a £26.7m fine for financial rule breaches and a wage-to-income ratio exceeding 80%.

Several Chelsea players — including Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Tyrique George, Raheem Sterling, and Ben Chilwell — could leave before Monday’s deadline. Meanwhile, the club continues to be linked with potential signings such as Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho and RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons.
