Bitcoin Chief Mourns Father’s Death Hours After Mocking Buhari’s Passing

Gaius Chibueze, popularly known as Bitcoin Chief, is in mourning following the sudden death of his father — just hours after mocking the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

On Sunday, Gaius had tweeted, “Buhari was a very terrible president. We must not pretend now. May his soul get what he did to Nigeria.”

But by Monday, he returned to the platform with tragic news of his own: “A few minutes ago, my father passed away in his home in Enugu State.”

Reflecting on their bond, he recalled, “I am comforted by the memories — like when I was just five years old, and he was already teaching me how to read the Bible and preach from house to house as a Jehovah’s Witness.”

He detailed his father’s lifelong love for reading, his diagnosis with Parkinson’s disease nine years ago, and how he had flown him to Turkey for deep brain surgery. “After the expensive procedure, he spent four more months there recovering,” Gaius wrote. “I even secured permanent residency for him in Turkey.”

Despite showing signs of improvement, his father insisted on returning home to Enugu. Gaius recounted that four days before his passing, the battery implant in his father’s chest failed, and the tremors returned. “I told him I’d put him on a flight this week,” he said. “He smiled and still said no.”

Announcing his father’s final moments, Gaius wrote, “Then today, my younger brother, Jehovah-Buikem, called me: ‘It has happened o. Mpa is gone!’”

He concluded the tribute by saying, “My dad wasn’t perfect. I carry many scars from the wrongs he did to me. But he never told lies, and he never coveted what others had.”
