Benue State has declared Wednesday, June 18, a work-free day in preparation for President Bola Tinubu’s one-day visit to the state.

The announcement was made in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Deborah Terkula-Akor, who said the holiday is to enable residents to come out en masse to welcome the President and show solidarity during his visit.

Tinubu is scheduled to visit Benue to commiserate with the people following the recent deadly attacks in Yelewata and other communities, where over 200 lives were lost in separate incidents of violence.

The statement, however, clarified that workers in essential sectors—such as health, security, and banking—are exempted from the holiday and should report to their duty posts as usual.

President Tinubu is expected to meet with victims’ families, community leaders, and security officials during a condolence town hall meeting in Makurdi. His visit comes after rescheduling his earlier planned trip to Kaduna State, signaling the seriousness with which the federal government is addressing the Benue killings.
